HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHETHER A MONEY TRANSFER WAS SENT TO ME VIA WESTERN UNION?

By calling our Customer Service Center at 033/268 000 or 051/220 800 and telling us the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) you can find out if there is any transfer in your name in our system.

WHAT AM I REQUIRED TO DO TO PICK UP THE MONEY SENT TO ME VIA WESTERN UNION?

In addition to a valid ID document, for money transfer pay out, you are required to provide the following transfer details: Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN), the Sender’s first and last name, the country of origin and the expected amount (+/- 10%).

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT WHICH CAN BE RECEIVED?

There are no restrictions for the amounts received from abroad.

WHO PAYS FOR THE MONEY TRANSFER FEE?

Money transfer fee is paid by the Sender only.

HOW LONG AFTER A PAYMENT HAS BEEN MADE CAN I PICK UP THE MONEY?

In most cases, the money can be picked up within a few minutes after sending. If you do not pick up the transfer on the same day, it will remain in the system for the next 45 days. Money is not returned to Sender for 9 months after the date of sending, unless the Sender orders so.

WHO IS TO PROVIDE THE RECEIVER WITH THE MONEY TRANSFER CONTROL NUMBER (MTCN)?

After completing a transfer the Sender is given the Money Transfer Control Number which is to be communicated to the Receiver, since it is required for money collection.

CAN A MINOR RECEIVE MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION?

No, a minor cannot receive money sent through Western Union.

DO YOU NEED TO HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT TO SEND OR RECEIVE MONEY FROM ABROAD?

No, neither Sender nor Receiver are required to have a bank account in order to use Western Union services. Instead, every money transfer is recorded in the system under a unique Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).

WHAT AM I REQUIRED TO DO IN ORDER TO SEND MONEY ABROAD?

To send money you need to present a valid ID document, tell the post office clerk which country you want to send money to, the amount you are sending and the Receiver’s full name.

IN WHICH CURRENCY CAN MONEY BE SENT FROM B&H?

From Bosnia and Herzegovina money is sent in BAM and EUR, while the Receiver picks up the money in the currency available for payout at the destination country.*

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT CAN BE SENT?

One person can send up to EUR 2,500 (or equivalent in other currency) per month.

WHO PAYS FOR THE MONEY TRANSFER FEE?

Money transfer fee is always paid by the Sender only.

To collect the money the Receiver needs to provide the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN), the Sender’s full name, the expected amount and the country of origin (the country where the money was sent from).

CAN THE SENDER PICK UP THE MONEY HE HAS SENT?

In case a money transfer has not been paid out to the Receiver in the destination country, the Sender can request his money back. The Sender needs to go to a bank and present his ID document together with the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) and he will get the money back, without being charged for any fees.

HOW DOES WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER WORK?

When money is sent, eg. from Germany, the transfer is made electronically so that a Receiver in B&H or elsewhere in the world can pick up the cash within just a few minutes.**

Money transfer can only be paid out to the person specified as the Receiver and that is the only person you should give money transfer information to. In addition, every transfer is given a unique Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).

WHAT TYPE OF ID DOCUMENT IS TO BE PROVIDED IN ORDER TO COLLECT THE FUNDS?

A Receiver needs to present a valid ID document with a photo – an ID card or a passport.

WHAT DO I DO IF I SUSPECT FRAUD AND AM NOT SURE WHETHER OR NOT TO MAKE A TRANSFER?
